Our delightful summertime "Wild Herb Weekend" conference in the mountains featured talks, workshops and walks. Members and the general public networked and learned the latest information on growing, using and marketing herbs, and current research results.
Special speaker at the Wild Herb Weekend was James Duke. James A. "Jim" Duke, PhD (UNC, 1961) calls North Carolina home, because that's where he learned almost everything he knows about plants. He retired from the USDA in 1995, after a 32-year career as an Economic Botanist. Today he continues his work of compiling data on medicinal plants and updating several of his books. Dr. Duke offers a unique and intimate view of ecology, herbalism and experience in working with the Shamanic culture of the Amazon Rainforest. He has journeyed to this region over 50 times and has lectured to many groups who have traveled with him. Jim serves as a board member and advisor to many organizations which are involved in herbal medicines and the Amazon rainforest.
